The Awakened Self Foundation Presents

Navratri 2023
Celebrate The Goddess Festival
With Our Global Family of Seekers

Opening Retreat: Oct. 14, 2023,
Goddess Festival: Oct. 15 - 23, 2023

As the sacred festival of Navratri approaches, we warmly invite you to join us on a profound 9-day journey of self-discovery and reflection. Join Acharya Shunya, as she leads us to the reverence of the Mother Goddess: Shakti, the All-Pervading, Supreme Power. This program is designed as a sanctuary for your soul; a time for deep connection to the Divine Feminine that resides within us all. We will delve into the wisdom of the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga, and each day, we will explore her teachings to guide our own life journey.

In the stillness of this special time, allow yourself to move inward, to a space of quietude, contemplation, and reverence. Our Navratri program aims to foster an environment of meditation, prayer, and deep reflection on the essential qualities of the Goddess—her strength, compassion, and boundless love. With Acharya Shunya’s unique teachings on these ancient goddess stories and archetypes; ayurvedic and yogic practices presented by her senior faculty members; and a nourishing online community, you will be well supported on your inward Navratri journey. We invite you to deepen your connection with the divine energy of Durga Maa this October, and emerge from this sacred period with clarity, peace, and renewed spiritual vigor.

Daily sonic experiences that will help you journey to the innermost depths of your spiritual heart, where goddess powers, divine blessings, and spiritual grace awaits.

 Evoke Durga

The first three days of Navratri are dedicated to Goddess Durga and her three archetypes, who are each, the destroyer of inner challenges in the form of conditioning, negativity and self-doubt and remover of outer obstacles. Durga is one of the most impressive, formidable, and popular goddess manifestations of all-pervading Shakti.

Evoke Lakshmi
Goddess Lakshmi is the second major manifestation of Shakti, and we meet her three archetypes from the 4th to the 6th day of Navratri. Each represents abundance through stable and loving relationships, material wealth and comforts, and above all, good luck, that we all humans need that.

Evoke Saraswati
In the final three days of Navratri, you will meet Goddess Saraswati and her three archetypes, who will each take you further, to meet their own divine Self.  Saraswati orchestrates our ultimate and final awakening. This is the non-dual circle – whatever is shining out there as spirit, we find shining in here, as the innermost divine feminine truth.

Listening to Acharya Shunya's teachings on the nine goddesses of Navratri was like a lullaby inviting me into the deeply powerful and enchanting world of the divine feminine. As she described the attributes, aspects and challenges of each goddess they came to life for me in a way that willed me to stop struggling, and surrender to their strength and beauty. Over these days I began to recognize and look for these goddess qualities within myself.

With Acharya Shunya's teachings, the nine forms of Durga emerged in 9 days for us to embrace the significance of them in our modern lives, our souls and our very being. As her stories unfolded the essence of the goddesses, the Goddess in me was invoked, their presence felt and their essence embodied my soul.

Acharya Shunya's Goddess teachings are so alive, flowing like a river of wisdom, artfully telling the sacred Goddess stories, awakening how we can roar as modern day Goddesses too. When I am connected with the Goddess, I could activate an inner awareness that is radically okay, vastly open, and wisely welcoming, despite my outer circumstances changing like the weather patterns. I continue to cultivate inner attitudes to acknowledge my feelings deeper like Maa Durga; to experience this is all gifts like Maa Lakshmi; and to flow with what shows up in life externally and internally like Maa Saraswati. Jai Maa!

 Goddess Invocator
Acharya Shunya

Acharya Shunya Head Shot_edited.jpg
Acharya Shunya has grown up in a feminine body and a family that has revered the Divine Feminine for the last 2000 years in India. At the age of 9, which is the typical age in India to be inducted into spirituality, she was formally initiated into a lifelong path of Vedic learning, teaching and service. She was also initiated into the wisdom initiated in ancient goddess scriptures, worshipping rituals, mantras, mystical practices from that young age by her grandfather, who was a renowned Hindu sage and Yogi of his time, In India. The more time Acharya Shunya spent contemplating and meditating on the mythology, and teachings of goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati, the more  inner strengths awakened inside Acharya Shunya, from within. As the  first female head of her 2000 -year old Vedic lineage today, and as someone who has been leading nine-day nine-night 'Navratri' goddess immersions and retreats for over a decade, and author of Roar Like A Goddess (Sounds True, 2022), Acharya Shunya  has  imparted her unique and entirely original goddess teachings to countless thankful  students all over the world.  Read More About Acharya Shunya

 Festival Host
Aparna Amy Lewis

She now serves as Adjunct Faculty in Acharya's Awakened Self Foundation and as a Board Member to Acharya Shunya’s nonprofit Vedika Global. Aparna's first exposure to The Goddess was through an intensive 9 Day 9 Night 'Navratri' Retreat with Acharya Shunya in 2009, soon after receiving her spiritual name. Aparna experienced transformational change by implementing and embodying the archetypal values associated with each of the 9 Devis. She feels a special affinity for the spiritual Self discipline of Goddess Brahmacharini (an archetype of Durga). After coordinating Acharya Shunya’s community celebrations of the Goddess for over a decade, Aparna is well suited to support new seekers as they celebrate  navratri with Acharya Shunya, for the first time. Aparna has earned the title of Vaidya Bhushana, (Ayurvedic Clinical Practitioner), after completing 5 year studies from Vedika's School of Ayurveda in the year 2013.  Her private practice focuses on Ayurveda Psychology and Vedic Counseling in both individual and group settings.
